Getting Political

Tuesday, May 27, 2008
My first foray into local politics occurred today. The residents of Blaine County were being asked to vote to approve a minimal rise in property taxes in order to help pay for the paramedic level ambulance service we currently enjoy (a rarity for a rural community such as ours). As a member of Wood River Fire and Rescue (who provides the ambulance service for the southern half of the county) and an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) myself, I--along with Brian, Owen and a few friends from the department--stood on a street corner on election day waving signs urging people to vote YES to save our ambulances. I felt very civic minded!
If you're interested in knowing more about the issue you can read about it on this website www.blainecountysafer.com. Thankfully our efforts, and the efforts of all involved, paid off and the vote passed overwhelmingly. Yea!
